Storm Damage

Public Works Department staff continues to pick-up debris from the July 22nd wind storm. To date, we estimate that over 7,000 cubic yards of tree limbs and timber, weighing an estimated 40-50 tons have been removed from residential areas.


City crews will complete street-by-street debris removal operations by Friday August 11th. Residents with existing tree debris should contact the Public Works Department or City Hall no later than 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 11th to schedule a pick-up if tree debris has not already been picked up. The Department will complete all work orders for tree debris, but residents MUST call before 2 p.m. Friday if they need existing debris picked up. City crews will not take any additional calls for debris after Friday August 11th.


Instructions for Debris removal:

For City pick-up:

•All limbs must be taken to the curb, limbs or branches should be cut to 6-8 foot lengths.
•Tree trunks must be cut to 4-5 foot sections.

Johnson County Landfill disposal:

•They accept from Wyandotte County residents, free of charge. No commercial acceptance.
•Will not accept anything larger than 3 inches in diameter or more than 4 feet in length
•Property owner must provide proof of residency upon arrival at the landfill
•Acceptance is limited to one load per week, of no more than 3 cubic yards of material
•Hours of acceptance will be Monday thru Friday, 8:00 am – 3:30 pm, and Saturday 8:00 am – 12:00 pm.

Regular Trash Pickup:

•Bundle limbs no longer than 4 feet in length, and 18 inches in diameter per bundle.
•Individual tree limbs for set out for trash pickup should not exceed 4 inches in diameter.  
•Set out bundles on your regular trash day
