General Information

Recruiting and selection of new employees follows these guidelines:
  • All applicants are required to complete an application form
  • Applicants will be selected for an interview according to their qualification for the job
  • Depending upon the position, the applicant will be required to undergo a pre-employment or post-employment physical and drug test at the expense of the city. If an applicant should refuse to submit to drug testing, they will not be considered for hire
  • New employees are required to successfully complete a training period of at least six months
  • Written examinations, interviews, background investigation, polygraphs, tests, and other appropriate assessment methods may be used as a screening device for some positions
