General Information The Bonner Springs Fire Department was organized in 1903, shortly after incorporation of the city. Starting with only a few volunteers, the department has retained its volunteer heritage throughout its existence. Today, there are 44 volunteer firefighters. Qualifications for Membership If you would like to join our team as a volunteer firefighter, the following qualifications must be met:
An application can be obtained at City Hall, 205 E. 2nd., (913) 667-1707, In the Fall of each year, applicants are notified to report for orientation and processing to become members of the Fire Department. Extensive training is provided at no cost during the first year for successful applicants. Training Training is provided in-house and through state and regionally sponsored fire service seminars. A member becomes a Nationally Certified Firefighter I during the first year on the department. Most firefighters then achieve their Nationally Certified Firefighter II. In addition, nearly one half of the members are Kansas Certified Emergency Medical Technicians. Apparatus
