Occupational License

Businesses located in Bonner Springs or doing business providing a service in Bonner Springs must obtain an occupational license. Licenses are issued for the calendar year January 1 through December 31. Licenses issued beginning December 1 of each year will be for the following year’s license. The only exception will be for businesses that were doing work or business within the City throughout the current year. For example, if an existing business did not obtain a current license or did not renew their license, they must pay the “annual” fee for the current year, as well as obtain a renewal for the following year.

The following “annual fees” are established by ordinance:

All Businesses in Bonner Springs	$75.00
All Businesses Not in Bonner Springs	$85.00
Home Occupations in Bonner Springs	$45.00
Renaissance Festival Businesses	*$55.00

A $5.00 per month and $30.00 maximum penalty shall be charged to businesses located in the city limits for failure to secure or renew their occupational license by March 31 for each annual year.

Home Occupations

• Shall be incidental to the principal use of the premises and not more than 25% of the floor area of any one floor shall be utilized.
• All materials or equipment shall be stored within an enclosed structure.
• No alteration of the exterior of the residential building shall be made which changes its character as a residence.
• Shall be operated by the person/persons occupying the residence and may engage one employee for less than 40 hours per week.
• No equipment shall be utilized that creates a nuisance due to noise or electrical interference.
