Municipal Services - Public Works Department Kevin Bruemmer, Director Mission The Public Works Department is dedicated to providing quality services to citizens and to other departments within the City. There are seven full time employees assigned to this department and one full time cemetery sexton. The Public Works Department is responsible for daily maintenance of 61 miles of city streets and city rights of way. Particular department activities include upkeep and new installations of street signs, maintenance of storm water drainage systems (both above and underground), pavement markings and monitoring a contract for the sweeping of city streets. This department oversees the annual chip seal of city streets. During the winter the department is responsible for snow and ice removal. If deemed necessary crews will man the equipment 24 hours a day. There is also a street light inspection program where the street lights are inspected once a month with the results of this turned into Weststar Energy. The City Cemetery is maintained by the public works department, which employs a full time sexton. He is responsible for maintaining an estimated 79,000 square feet of cemetery grounds with approximately 5,000 headstones in this area.
