The City of Bonner Springs operates the water and wastewater utilities and contracts with Deffenbaugh Disposal Service for residential refuse service. The City franchises with Southwestern Bell Telephone (SBC), Westar Energy, Atmos Energy, Time Warner Cable and Kansas City Power and Light to provide excellent utility services within the community. The Board of Public Utilities provides water service to northern portions of Bonner Springs.

Customers should apply for water, wastewater and trash service at City Hall, 205 E Second. Different utility companies serve specific areas of the city. To determine the private utility provider for your location, please contact City Hall, (913) 667-1717.

Licenses and Permits Required

The following licenses and permits are required in the City of Bonner Springs.

  • Occupational License – Companies conducting business or performing work in Bonner Springs must obtain an occupational license.
  • Alcoholic and Cereal Malt Beverage License – Businesses are required to obtain a license for sale of retail liquor and cereal malt beverages in unopened containers and for consumption of alcoholic and cereal malt beverages.
  • Animal License – A license and rabies vaccination are required for dogs and cats over six months old.
  • Arcade License – Required for five or more amusement devices in a business.
  • Burning Permit – No cost for the permit, but is required for burning of normal yard waste (leaves and small limbs). Permits are required for all open burning. Permits may be obtained at City Hall.
  • Camping Permit – Required for overnight camping (tens, temporary shelter or other equipment or gear) on public or private property.
  • Carnival Permit (Public Amusements) – Required for amusement or entertainment (including carnivals, band concerts or similar entertainment) open tot he public for which admission is charged.
  • Fireworks Permit – Persons operating a fireworks stand are required to obtain a permit for the sale of approved Class C fireworks.
  • Fireworks Display Permit – Required for public display of fireworks by competent operator.
  • Kennel Permit – Required for residential property owners having a combined total of three dogs and cats over six months of age, in addition to the Animal License. No license shall be issued for more than seven animals.
  • Merchant Police Permit – Required for individuals or businesses providing security services.
  • Renaissance Festival Occupational License
  • Solicitor’s License – Required when an individual engages in the business of a peddler, solicitor or canvasser by going from door to door taking or attempting to take orders for sale of goods.
