Bonner Springs Property Maintenance Guidelines
Spring has arrived with warmer weather and longer days giving everyone the opportunity to work in the yard. According to Barbara Bille, Code Enforcement Officer for the city, "Now is a great time to clean up the yard and get rid of any litter or debris accumulated over the winter." Ms. Bille also wants to remind residents of some of the City’s regulations for yard maintenance. "Following these guidelines will keep properties clean, make all neighborhoods a great place to live and show a sense of pride to anyone visiting our city."
- Keep grass cut so that it does not exceed 12 inches in height.
- Each property should be free from any accumulation of rubbish or garbage.
- All storage must be in an enclosed structure. Items, including building materials, lumber, tires, auto parts, furniture, appliances, bicycles, trash, plastic containers, toys, junk or refuse cannot be stored outside.
- Building materials, concrete or asphalt may not be dumped on any property within the City of Bonner Springs. Any person desiring to grade, fill or excavate must first obtain an Earth Change Permit from the City Planning Department.
- Any vehicle that is not registered, is placed on jacks, blocks or supports, or is missing one or more parts necessary for lawful operation is not allowed to be stored outside on any property, or driven on any street or highway.
- Trash should not be set out to the curb prior to 4:00 p.m. on the evening before your scheduled pickup day. All items must be properly bagged and secured. A complete list of acceptable means of disposal is available at City Hall.
- The fastest way for emergency vehicles to find your home or business is to have the proper address on your house, apartment or business. Numbers must contrast with their background and be a minimum of 4 inches in height.
Ms. Bille further stated, "What I want most of all is to inform residents of the responsibility to maintain their property with regards to mowing and removal of litter in the areas up to and including the centerline of every street and alley. This also applies to any creeks or streams located on their private property. If all property owners took the necessary steps to maintain their areas of responsibility, we would have a more attractive city for everyone. Together we can make a difference.
