![]() Bonner Springs Aquatic ParkSkill Requirements Parent-Child (6 month to 3 years): This course is designed to familiarize children with the water. Course goal is not to teach the child to swim but to get them used to the water, including jumping in the pool. The parent does not have to know how to swim, but should be comfortable in the water. Preschool (3 to 4 years): Early exploration and designed to familiarize children with the water on their own. Learn the basics of elementary skills in a fun environment. Level 1: Water exploration, learn elementary skills to build as they progress through the Learn-to-Swim Program: such as floating and kicking on front and back, alternating arm action, and safety skills. Introduction to front and back crawl. Level 2: Primary Skills - students learn basic stroke skills, including front and back crawl. Includes safety skills. Level 3: Stroke Readiness - students build on aquatic skills presented in Level 2. Guided practice in the front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, diving from side of the pool, safety skills. Level 4: Stroke Development - students develop confidence and competency in stroke, safety and rescue skills learned in previous levels. Includes breaststroke, sidestroke, turns, treading water, and safety skills. Level 5: Stroke Refinement - students coordinate and refine key strokes acquired in previous levels. Endurance swimming introduced. Competitive: Swimming and Skill Proficiency- refines the strokes to swim with ease and power over greater distances. A good step towards swim team! Adults: Designed to accommodate all adults interested in Levels 1 to 4. Classes grouped to allow learning at his/her own level. Instructional class, lap swimming not permitted!
